Please forgive the lapse in posting. This blindness thing makes it hard for me to type out entries. Susan has been so busy that I didn't want to bother her with helping. But today we have a little time. Its been a nice spring and summer. Shawn and Susan paired me up with Will, a dogwalker who adores me. I see will at least twice a week and we play. On the days I don't see Will, the 4 of us go out for evening walks. Andrew is the new leash-holder of the family and though occasionally he bumps into me, it works out alright. My main problem now is that Andrew can climb up on furniture, including the chair which I claimed long before he was born. See photo. So sometimes I end up napping on the floor. Photo again. But I suppose if that's the worst of it, I can't really complain.

I've got a pretty good routine going. I wake up, do my business outside, eat breakfast, chillax (see picture above), go on a walk, have dinner, then snuggle up with S&S. Life's good.

Still Here, Still Blind

Despite the vet's best efforts, the antibiotics didn't cure my blindness. That said, Susan and Shawn met with a trainer for disabled dogs and now I'm well on my way to a happy new life without vision. They have me scavenging for kibble and toys all over the house - detective work using my nose, which I depend on alot these days. I'm back to taking walks and know some new commands like "wait", "careful", "up" and "down." I'm pictured here with Andrew and his friend Dylan. I've been told that I'm great with babies :)

The Rumors Are True

Hello loyal fans, I am writing to let you know that indeed the rumors are true; I have lost my vision. It has been gradual but in the past year I have been able to see enough to trick Susan and Shawn into thinking there was no problem. But about 2 weeks ago, the lights went out, so to speak. I started knocking my head into walls and scared my owners pretty badly. After a slew of tests, they determined that its progressive retinal atrophy. Nothing to be done about it. But luckily, since I'm a dog, I can use my senses of smell and hearing to make up for the loss of vision. So I'm still able to lead a happy life. Blogging is hard without being able to see the keyboard, so forgive my absence. Susan is typing this for me as I dictate.

So sorry I haven't posted in a while! Thanks to Bart for pointing it out. Its just that I've been helping Susan out with my new little brother (read: trying to teach him how to poop outside, and how to pee on table legs, and which toys are mine) and lost track of my other duties such as this blog. Here are a few pictures from the past 4 months just so you see I am alive and well. Andrew arrived on December 7th and I was kicked to the back burner for a while, but things are getting a little more normal around here and the 4 of us enjoy daily walks together. Shawn's on parental leave so I'm not getting to visit my RPI buddies as much, I still go up there on Wednesdays and have alot of fun. Guess that's about all....I'll do my best to post more often now that I know I have a fan base.

Happy 5th Birthday to Me! I'm all recovered from the attack, and my subsequent ear infection. My fur has grown back quite a bit. Shawn and Susan threw a great party for me - with lots of my human friends who fed me human food and gave me gifts.

Feeling Pretty Bad

On Wednesday night 2 big dogs attacked me. I don't know why, I didn't provoke them. After some surgery the Dr. said I'd be ok, it would just be a long road to recovery. Lots of skin/muscle damage but no organ/bone involvement. Susan and Shawn are taking good care of me and I'm pretty doped up on meds.

Update on the Boz

Hi all, its Susan. Bosley can't post because he's quite ill. So ill, infact, that he's spent the past few days in the animal hospital. He became very lethargic, was clearly in pain, stopped eating/drinking and was vomiting alot. Bloodwork came back fine, but his xray and ultrasound showed an obstruction in the small intestine. Turns out he ate part of his kong and it was stuck, causing him alot of distress. Surgery went well this afternoon, they removed the toy, and they'll monitor him for the next 2 days to be sure he doesn't get an infection, and that his appetite and energy return.

I weight 19 lbs and am large enough to go up and down most stairs. Steep ones still give me trouble. Sorry I haven't posted for a while. I was in hiding while the painting crew worked on the house last month.

Hey there! Not much new here. Just playing around with S&S and their friends this summer while they're home. Aside from a period of time where they fed me stale food, I'm a pretty happy guy. Sometimes I go over to the playing fields and run around until I fall over exhausted. Literally. Its the best. Here's a pic of me and my favorite toy, the Kong.

On the NEW Couch

I'm really enjoying this new couch. Its so much softer than the old piece of crap that Susan and Shawn had. Its microfiber so I can't tear it up with my long nails or stain it with my slobber. Its a pretty high jump for me to get up there, but since I'm so limber and agile, this is no huge challenge. Here's a photo of me and Susan. She is taunting me with a treat-filled Kong. And yes, in the flash photography world, dogs get blue-eyes, humans get red-eyes.

I'm stocking up on cuddles this week, as Shawn is in SC and Susan's the only one home. I'm even sleeping in their bed now! It makes me so happy....except when I'm smushed between them when they roll over. Hazards of being a tiny pug, I guess.

Susan left me home alone for an absurd amount of time the other day so I decided to gnaw away at (read: destroy) her nice bamboo knitting needles and unravel her yarn, then drag the string all around the house. I think she learned her lesson. She's off to Las Vegas this weekend so it will be me and the redhead. He's more fun than she is anyway. He plays rough and chases me and throws the ball. Susan's the person I go to for cuddles and bellyrubs. I can forgo that for a while, and would rather have playtime!

Yes, I am still in bed. Now that the weather is nice, Shawn and Susan are taking me on superlong walks and it just tires me out. Their legs are 5 times longer than mine, how am I supposed to keep up? I've really taken to the bed lately. In the middle of the night I come upstairs (my bed is downstairs) and sneak in between S&S. So cozy! I get the impression they are not too excited about it though...TOO BAD!

Since so many people have asked, here's a photo of me as a little pup when I was with my previous family. I was about the same size as their baby when I lived with them (not that I'm much bigger now...just humor me). In this photo with me is Christian, whom I miss. Anytime I'm out and about and see babies I can't resist going over to them and giving them kisses. I'm a very senstive, gentle pug. And no, I'm not effeminate, even if Susan and Shawn do call me their "little princess". It probably stems from the fact that I carry a pink pillow in my mouth to have a sitting cushion at my disposal rather than resting on the cold, hard floor. That's just common sense, nothing to do with being girly...right?

Had a nice trip to NJ. I really enjoyed the car ride, as you can see in this picture. This weekend I got to sleep in bed with Susan and Shawn! When I'm at home I normally crash on the couch under a pillow/blanket tent structure. I'm pretty proud of my fortress, actually. One day, when I was bored at home, I figured out how to make one all by myself. I dragged the two couch pillows together and placed the throw blanket on top. Ever since then, its become a nightly ritual. And you thought Susan was the only architect in this house! No sirree, I'm the competition.

Road Trip!

Rumor has it that I'm headed on a little trip tomorrow to Susan's parents' house in NJ. Sounds good to me. I really enjoy jumping onto the king size bed there and waking up Susan's dad in the wee hours of the morning. Last time I was there I left Susan's mom a "gift" on her fancy rug. Heehee. But she turned out to be a nice lady, I won't do that again.

I'm feeling a little better today. Shawn and Susan are helping by constantly saying what a good boy I am and how handsome I am and giving me lots of belly rubs. Admittedly, I kind of like it. And, well, I am pretty darn cute. Just look at this picture. How can anyone resist me?

Its kind of boring here when they both are out working all day. Luckily they're both gone only two days a week. Otherwise I always have one of them home which is nice. Its convient that Susan leaves her laptop at home when she's out. I enjoy surfing the web - checking out the pug dating sites. But I'll leave that for another post. Onto my first rant/rave:

Wow, its cold in NY in January. They tell me its actually been a warm winter so far, so I'm in for it when the cold weather hits. I have a really thin coat of fur and was much better suited for TX weather. Luckily, Susan and Shawn saw that I was having some trouble with the cold and have bought me a knit sweater, a fleece jacket and a waterproof jacket which help alot when we go outside.

But, like many other pugs I know, I prefer to go "au naturale" when I'm in the house. When I'm napping I sometimes get a bit chilly so they are kind enough to wrap me up in a blanket, as you can see in the photo. When they're not home I just crawl into their bed and stay under their comforter. I try to be sneaky about it but a few times I've left my toys in their bed by accident so they figured it out.

Susan and Shawn took away my favorite toy last night in a last ditch effort to get me to bed. But I was way too wound up to sleep so instead I just whined most of the night and kept them awake. Ha! That'll teach them to not mess with me.

An Introduction

I have a little (ok, a LOT of) time on my hands, so I thought I'd give the world an opportunity to get to know the real me. So many blogs out there belong to humans, I thought it was about time for a dog to give it a try.

Where shall I start...well, my name is Bosley. I was born in mid June 2004, somewhere in central Texas. When I was about 5-6 weeks old I was separated from my parents and littermates and placed with human parents outside of Austin, TX. They gave me my name because of the movie "Charlie's Angels". They actually planned on getting 3 more girl pugs and naming them after the angels. Pretty funny huh? Me and 3 ladies. Would have been nice.

6 weeks is pretty early to take a pup away from his family, and as a result I suffer from a bit of anxiety around other dogs. Truth is, other dogs kind of scare me. They are so smelly and loud and I would much rather spend my time chatting over a cup of coffee with people. I'm alot more comfortable with humans....most of the time I think I am a human, actually. Or as close as a pug can be to one, I suppose.

My Texas mom was pregnant when I was still pretty new to their family. She was in over her head trying to take care of me and the new baby so they decided it would be best to give me to another family who didn't have any kids. It was really nice of them to look out for my best interest. As it turned out, some people in upstate NY wanted me. I was told that I was going to go for a long ride (I LOVE car rides) and that when it was over I'd have new owners that could give me alot of time and love. I told them that these new people sounded alright, so I agreed to it.

That was one long, miserable ride. In a truck nonetheless. In the middle of the summer. No windows. I was surrounded by all sorts of dogs in crates who just whined the entire time. How's a pug to nap if there's all this barking around? Finally in July 2005 I arrived at my new home. I was so wound up from being in that truck that when I first entered their house, I ran around in circles for an hour or so, just to work off all the pent up energy. The new house is pretty great- I have alot more space, my own bean bag chair, I'm allowed on all the furniture, I have a yard to myself, and they feed me tasty organic food. I'm pretty spoiled.

It took me a while to adjust though. I didn't understand their northern accents at first so it was hard to follow commands. But gradually I've gotten to be more comfortable, and dare I say it, bold. I like to test their limits, but they don't seem to phased by it so its no fun. Well, thats enough for now. I'll write more later, so check back. Susan and Shawn will be home around 5:15 so if I'm going to nibble on one of Shawn's socks, I best do it now.
